  • Rafts made of balsa logs
  • 10th annual Amazon River Raft Race
  • 112 miles

This is one of the most difficult sporting events in the world. The
slogan, "the faint of heart need not apply," tells it all. Ninety percent
of this endeavor is mental and the other half is physical.

For those who would like to observe this amazing event, without
paddling three days with the piranhas nibbling your toes, please accept
my invitation to join us from September 17th through the 21st in the
luxury of Dawn on the Amazon III or our half price accommodations on
Dawn on the Amazon I. We will get there ahead of race time and watch
participants arrive and construct their rafts. We will size up the
competition and choose our favorites. We will follow along and
intermingle with the balsa rafts during the race. In the evenings we will
tie up near the rafts, and crews, and share in their pain and
exhaustion, while celebrating having all of our toes intact. It will be a
very fun party.

The base price for Dawn III is $1,156 per person for five days. For $25
per person per day a cabin upgrade is available, and for an extra $50
per person per day, the Matrimonial suite is available. The cost for
Dawn I is $578 per person for five days. These prices include a
charming bi-lingual escort and guide to meet you at the Iquitos airport
and assist you all along the way, and back, delicious regional home
cooking, pure water, a jon boat with 15 hp motor to make excursions to
land and among the rafts.

Obviously Dawn III has twice the comfort and accommodations,
including screened in cabins to escape the mosquitoes, fans, nice
showers, flush toilets, comfortable mattresses and pillows, fancy linens
and robes, and much attention to detail. Everyone will have the option
to purchase satellite telephone service, cold beer, cool wine, and
bottled beverages.

Please make your reservations as soon as possible and lock in 2007
prices. Click our "Contact Us" link on the navigation bar to the left.
Thank you.

Join us on Dawn on the Amazon III the first Saturday of every month
for special cruises, our classic Rivers to Rain Forest Adventure
Expeditions. The special price includes all of our usual services such as
pick up from the Iquitos airport and delivery with assistance to and
from the boat or hotel, gourmet food, plenty of snacks, pure water,
professional quality photos sent to your email address, knowledgeable
guide, a Jon boat with 25 hp Johnson for excursions from the mother
ship, and much more…

Dawn on the Amazon III has become famous in the upper Amazon
water shed of Peru. Designed as a 19th century rubber boom vessel,
with 21st century accommodations, such as electricity, refrigeration,
freezers, lights, fans, GPS/sonar, HF radio, VHF radio, satellite phone,
showers, and flush toilets.

The boat is built of naturally finished tropical hardwoods, reinforced
with steel, with 21 artistic carvings of jungle scenes, many with
vegetable ivory inlays. The figurehead is an eagle catching a giant fish
in its talons. All of the furniture was crafted by local cabinetmakers
from the tropical hardwoods purple heart, and blood wood.

We have comfortable mattresses, and pillows, and the most beautiful
linens on the upper Amazon River. The sheets are hand made of the
best fabrics, fitted, and decorated with embroidery, bows and ribbons,
nice fluffy towels and bath robes. The rooms are cleaned hotel style
everyday.

We take great pride in the quality of the food on board Dawn III. Every
morning brings a different fresh squeezed tropical fruit juice, brewed
coffee, eggs, bacon, Muesli, made of rare cereal grains from the Andes,
yogurt, whole milk, or skim milk. Lunch and Dinner will contain fresh
basil, cilantro, ginger or other herbs and spices, and tasty homemade
sauces. We serve healthy chicken soup. My chefs use palm oil or olive
oil depending…fresh fish, chicken, duck, and some surprises.

We serve large portions for the meals. You can be sure we do not
skimp on the quantity or the quality. This is not a rice and beans type
river boat. We cook like a Peruvian grandma whose family is gathering
for a special occasion, and she wants them to remember it is special.

I am guessing some of what we serve will be completely new to our
guests, and the food should be part of the adventure. Our guests will
have the opportunity to taste suri grubs, giant land snails, jungle
butter, water buffalo cheese, seven different jungle roots soaked in
sugar cane rum, piranhas, (that's right, we eat them, they do not eat
us) and/or whatever exotic, tasty tucker we can gather.

Join us the first Saturday of every month for a special adventure
featuring the best the river and the rain forest have to offer.
